Lime Plastering & Pointing
Elvidge Renovation & Resotration undertake a lot of lime restoration work. Using lime putty and hydraulic lime mixes without cement allowing for breathability in traditional old buildings.
This method does not work for every building, but for soft bricks or stone it can make them last a lot longer as moisture passes through and the building can dry out when warm.
The problem with stone buildings that have been pointed with cement pointing is that water will erode the stone before it does the cement. Several years down the line you can be left with crumbling stone and intact pointing.

Our lime plastering mixes are roughly:
- Internal:
- Base Coats: 1 and a half sharp sand, 1 and a half soft sand, 1 hydraulic lime
- Final Top Coat: 1 kiln dried sand 1 lime putty (equivalent to modern day skimming)
- External: The same as the internal base coat
